Corrective Jaw Surgery (Orthognathic Surgery)
Orthognathic surgery is needed when jaws don’t meet correctly and/or teeth don’t seem to fit with the jaw. Teeth are straightened with orthodontics and corrective jaw surgery repositions a misaligned jaw.
Reconstructive jaw surgery is performed in a hospital setting and requires a one to two day stay. In addition to the obvious functional benefit, many patients experience a cosmetic improvement of their facial appearance. Orthognatic surgery is covered under the medical health plan and prior to any treatment, it is recommended that the surgeon obtain a medical pre-authorization for the surgery.
Dr. Patel is extensively trained in Orthognathic Surgery and has experienced the procedure and benefits first-hand.
