    Dental Implants

Dental implants are titanium posts that represent the roots of natural teeth. They are surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. After a period of healing (osseo-integration), these metal posts are ready for restoration by your general dentist. Dental implants are the most superior replacements for missing teeth. Their success rate is in the high 90 percentile.

    The Surgical Procedure

For most patients, Dr. Patel will extract and place your dental implants into your jawbone under local anesthesia.

Very often a healing cap is placed over the surface of the implant, which will prevent a second surgical step from being performed. Occasionally with single-rooted teeth, Dr. Patel will extract and place the surgical implant at the same benefit. This has the added benefit of reducing the time frame before restorations can be performed.

The usual healing period is three to six months following surgery. In the rare event an implant fails to heal the jawbone, Dr. Patel will replace the implant at no cost to the patient and will re-attempt placement of the implant two to three months after a period of healing.

There is minimal discomfort associated with the procedure. Antiseptic mouth rinses, antibiotics and pain meds are prescribed. A consultation appointment is always preferred for all patients wishing to consider dental implant surgery so the advantages and expectations of surgery can be fully explained to the patient prior to commencement of the treatment.

Are You A Candidate For Implants?

If you are considering implants, your mouth must be examined thoroughly and your medical and dental history reviewed. If you mouth is not ideal for implants, ways of improving outcome, such as bone grafting, may be recommended.
