Sleep Apnea and Snoring Treatment
According to the National Sleep Foundation, some form of snoring or obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) occurs in 90 million Americans. Approximately 40% of patients over 40 snore, and half of them snore every night.
An estimated 18 millions Americans have OSA; 16 million are undiagnosed. OSA is associated with higher risks of heart failure, hypertension, depression and loss of concentration. Sleep apnea can also lead to excessive daytime sleepiness.
Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons play a vital role in the management of OSA. Oral devices are appropriate treatments for primary snoring and work as a lower jaw (mandible) repositioning appliance (MRAs). These devices are FDA approved and can be custom fitted by Dr. Patel.
Maxillomandibular advancement surgery is the most effective procedure for OSA. OSA is a very serious condition that needs correct diagnosis and treatment. Most major medical plans offer coverage for the management and correction of OSA.
